To market, to market

I stopped by Sunnyside for the debut of Queens County Market today. This foodie frenzy, planned as a monthly event, features hand-crafted, artisanal food from throughout the borough. There were some familiar faces, like Queens Comfort and Ronnybrook, but I made off with a few goodies that were new to me: "peanutella" (an organic, dairy-free peanut and chocolate spread) from Woodside Bakehouse and lovely truffles from Sweet Silk. Looking forward to stuffing my face until the next market pops up!

Gobble gobble

So, yesterday was Thanksgiving. November has been unbelievably busy, and the holiday sort of sneaked up on me. On, oh, Sunday, I realized, "Holy crap! I might only be cooking for two! How do I justify multiple pies when there's only two mouths to feed?" I got out my address book and started frantically e-mailing, and remarkably enough, a few people -- from Milwaukie, no less -- ventured out to Astoria, and we ate and drank and made merry, and it was a lovely, lovely time.

(We ate A LOT. Sumeet made lamb and turkey, Linn brought a frittata, Mandi made kale salad and baguette slathered with lemon-thyme ricotta and honey, and I made green beans with caramelized onions, roasted sweet potatoes covered in a salad of cranberries/pecans/celery/shallots, mashed potatoes with vegetarian gravy; for dessert, there was Watergate salad, pumpkin pie, and peanut butter balls dipped in dark chocolate. Mmmm.)

Tiffin in New York!

Finally, the tiffin-wallahs are innovating: offering lunches and dinners on demand in NYC.

Visit Tiffin New York for the skinny -- veg options are $8.95 for lunch or dinner, nonveg is $9.95. The menu appears to be updated weekly, and it looks delish. They deliver in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and parts of Long Island and New Jersey -- what's not to love?
