Stitch in time

Another highlight of the Maker Faire was P.Nosa's embroidered tableaux. He "draws" scenes on fabric using his sewing machine, which is powered by a solar panel or a bike electrical generator. At his booth, you can whisper five words to him, and he'll stitch up the scene; you can buy it, or it can just become part of his book.

Down to the bone

So, my knitting prowess extends only to the production of endless stripey scarves, but masters of the fiber arts can do all sort of cool things. To wit: Ben Cuevas created this amazing skeleton as part of "Transcending the Material" for the Wassaic Project. A bit about the piece:

The installation piece ... features a knitted skeleton seated atop a pyramid of Borden’s condensed milk cans and a cloud of screen prints on Plexi glass suspended above it. The knitted skeleton is seated in the lotus position. The prints are of disembodied anatomical parts photographed in high resolution with diagrammatic illustrative overlays. Ben conceives of the piece as a reference to material culture and Wassaic’s local history (The Borden Company had a condensed milk factory in Wassaic) and a meditation on transcendence.

It's time I at least thought about tackling socks.
